A bilingual site for a handmade-paper atelier, with a catalogue the manager edits herself

A Lisbon atelier making handmade paper, letterpress and papier-mâché pieces needed a site that feels handmade and can be updated without a developer.

Arcaica home page with the headline “It’s not about the past. It’s about the origin.” and a button to see the process.

The situation

Craft work sells on images and story. The atelier needed a site that works in Portuguese and English and that the manager could keep up to date.

What I built

  • A homepage with hero, manifesto and process, plus a product catalogue with detail pages and web addresses that are easy to read.
  • Light and dark mode.
  • Full Portuguese and English versions, with the site remembering the visitor's choice.
  • A content editor for every section and a product manager with image and video upload.
  • A translation check that lists any English text still missing, and a button that suggests a translation, which is never saved on its own.
  • Monthly automatic backups, with optional copy to Google Drive.
  • An audit log, visit statistics and a site-notice banner.
  • A built-in tutorial for the admin.

What it looks like

The site is still being built. These images are previews of the current version, with demo data.

Preview of the Arcaica home page, still in build: the headline “Not about the past. It's about the origin.” and the “Discover the Process” button.

The home page, in English (still in build).

Arcaica admin, still in build: the brand identity editor, with the language being edited (PT or EN) and the fields of the main banner.

The admin, editing the banner text. The admin is in Portuguese. Demo data (still in build).

Arcaica admin, still in build: product import from CSV, with a preview of the rows and the warnings before publishing.

Compliance and quality

  • Privacy policy in both languages, backed by a register of every cookie and stored item.
  • Analytics without cookies and without storing the IP address.
  • Structured data for products, plus a generated sitemap.
  • Automated tests (unit and browser) run in CI, and error tracking (Sentry), to be switched on at launch.

What your project can have

  • A catalogue you edit yourself: products, images and video, without depending on anyone.
  • You sign in with your Google account, and each team member only sees the areas they need.
  • You import your products in one go from a CSV, with a preview before you confirm.
  • You rename a product without losing its old links.

Technology

Common, well-documented technologies, so the project can grow or change hands.

  • Node.js
  • Express
  • Prisma
  • MariaDB
  • Cloudinary (media)
  • Google sign-in
  • Playwright and Jest (tests)
